Montessori School of Toronto

Our drainage and civil groups were engaged in permitting, stormwater analysis, design, and construction supervision phases of a new drainage system for an outdoor Amphitheatre. The project included coordination with the City’s water department that executed modifications of street manholes and other components of City’s stormwater collection system.

Problem

Task

During design of the exterior amphitheater it was recognized that the storm water collected at the bottom of the theatre will have to be drained out.

Challenges

Analysis

A bottom elevaton of the amphitheater was lower than the elevation of the surrounding grades. In addition, the existing building adjacent to the amphitheater did not have a perimeter drainage system to connect to.

Solution

Engineering

Our team designed new storm drainage system that connected to the City's storm system and applied for the approval with the City.

Benefits

Results

The amphitheater and the new building addition got a drainage system that would minimize risk of flooding. The contractor was able to complete construction of the school expansion before a new school year started.
